  Dr. Breelyn A. Wilky, MD is the Director of Sarcoma Medical Oncology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.  She is part of a large multidisciplinary sarcoma team including medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, pediatric oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and interventional radiologists who work together to provide comprehensive care for sarcoma patients.  She spends her time taking care of patients over the age of 18 with all kinds of sarcomas and other bone and soft tissue tumors including desmoid fibromatosis, pigmented villonodular synovitis, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and giant cell tumor of bone. She is an expert not only in traditional chemotherapy treatments for sarcomas, but also at using modern technology such as gene sequencing and molecular profiling to identify out-of-the-box treatments particularly in targeted therapy.  

Dr. Wilky is also a translational researcher who conducts and designs clinical trials for sarcoma patients, with a focus on early immunotherapy protocols.  Her laboratory studies the interaction between sarcomas and the immune system, understanding how patient sarcomas respond to immune therapy, but also testing new immune-related treatments in mouse models of sarcomas.  Additionally, Dr. Wilky leads the investigator-initiated clinical trials committee at the University of Colorado Cancer Center, helping other researchers bring laboratory science discoveries into human clinical trials.

Dr. Wilky received her undergraduate degree in Biology and Music from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and attended medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, New Jersey (now Rutgers Medical School.)  She received her MD with Distinction in Research.  She then completed the Osler internship and residency in Internal Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and stayed there to complete her fellowship in Medical Oncology.  Prior to her role in Colorado, Dr. Wilky was Assistant Professor at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami from 2013 to 2018.  Her honors and awards include election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a recipient of an ASCO/Conquer Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award in 2012 for her work investigating DDX3 as a novel therapeutic target in Ewing Sarcoma, Outstanding Clinical Researcher of the Year for 2017 at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and most recently is the recipient of an American Cancer Society Mentored Research Scholar Grant to further her research in understanding the role of the immune system in fighting sarcomas.

In her free time Dr. Wilky enjoys spending time with her husband Jason, with hobbies including fishing and boating, hiking and off-roading, cooking, and traveling.

  1. I am a person that had the privilege of being treated by Dr. Wilky. I came to her with no hope and thinking that I only had less than a year to live. From the first time I went to her she new everything about my case. She is so compassionate with her patients and family members .   3. Dr. Wilky was my primary cancer care physician during my diagnosis and throughout my treatments. Dr. Wilky was very compassionate towards me and my family during my visits. Dr. Wilky took the time to calm my fears and provided honest answers to my questions. Myself and my family was saddened to see that you left Miami, you will do great things in Colorado. It will not be the same going to UM and not seeing you there.
