New Video: Empowering the immune system in sarcomas

Greetings readers! This week I gave a talk at our Cancer Center’s symposium series on some of the research that we’re developing in the lab and in clinic on improving outcomes with immunotherapy in sarcomas. It’s long and pretty scientific-focused, but reviews the major immunotherapy trials for sarcomas, and talks about ideas about how to move forward. You can link to the Youtube video below.

    I am watching the video you sent me, thanks very much.

    My wife, Marie-France, is one of the success stories. She was diagnosed with uterine LMS in July, 2013. She had a big surgery and her cancer was classified as Stage IV and aggressive. She was put on gemtax for a while but the cancer came back. Some brachytherapy made the most problematic tumor disappear, thank God, since it was in an inoperable place. Then she went on Yondelis, which stabilized the remaining tumors for about a year. When it stopped working enough time had passed for nivolumab and ipilimubab to be developed and tested and she was put on that combo in Feb. 2017. (Her oncologist is Dr. Brian Van Tine at the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis.)

    Marie-France had an immediate response to that. She tolerated the drugs well and was kept on them for 2 years. The tumors never came back and now she is no longer being treated. Interestingly, Dr. VT says that of all his patients, only African/Americans have had complete responses. Mfrance is African/American.

  3. hi Dr. Wilky, I finally made time to watch your presentation. I found it extremely interesting, and I too think immunotherapy looks extremely promising (and challenging). Thank you for having the courage to propose a significant new paradigm. I look forward to the next presentation as your proposal becomes reality!
