Sarcoma Awareness Month may be over, but for patients, families, and docs fighting sarcoma awareness is a daily occurrence!  Thus… we have TWO upcoming events planned here at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center for patient awareness and education.

Friday, September 23, 2016 – SCCC / Manny Alvarez Foundation Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma Day of Learning / Research Workshop.

The speakers have bought their tickets – time to RSVP!  This will be an amazing gathering of researchers and clinicians who are all committed to finding new treatments for this horrific disease.    We need your questions and your experiences to prioritize our future goals for research.  The event is free and you are welcome to stay for as little or as long as you like. We just ask that you RSVP by emailing Krystin Altieri so that we have a headcount.

The talks will be clustered into 4 themes – patient-oriented overviews, ongoing clinical trials, immunotherapy, and next-generation laboratory science.  Speakers who have committed so far include myself, Andrew Rosenberg from Miami, Robert Meehan from the ASPS clinic at NIH, Ian Judson from Royal Marsden, Paul Chen, the CEO from Advenchen Pharmaceuticals who will speak on anlotinib (the new drug that took ASCO by storm for amazing results with ASPS in China), Neeta Somaiah and David Hong from MD Anderson, John Goldberg from Agenus to discuss vaccines, and Charles Keller, Kevin Jones, Andrew Wagner, and Yosef Landesman to discuss up-and-coming laboratory research and identifying new targets for drug development.  The day will be topped off with amazing, inspirational talks from our patient advocates, Christie Martell from Manny Alvarez Foundation and Nathan Traller from 4Nathalie.  Plenty of time for questions and discussions will be built into the day’s schedule.

Saturday, September 24, 2016 – Sarcoma Foundation of America’s Ask the Experts Patient Education Workshop

Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, 1475 NW 12th Avenue, Room 1301, Miami, FL 33136  (Registration opens at 8:30 am, the event will run until approximately 2 PM)

On Saturday, we’ll have another day of learning focused on more general sarcoma topics.  Speakers include myself, Jonathan Trent, Andrew Rosenberg, Sheila Conway and Matteo Trucco.  Patient stories and plenty of time for questions and answers will be included.
